From High Street to Haute Couture, “Made in China” is a ubiquitous label in closets around the world, taking its right of place on the back of some of our favourite pieces from some of our favourite brands.

But what about China’s very own brands and style trends? What is modern Chinese fashion? Does true fashion design exist in a country better known for the craftsmanship of its knock-offs? What informs the modern Chinese fashion aesthetic? What role does fashion, the most quotidian yet powerful form of self-expression, play in the fractious search for identity of this rapidly changing nation?

These are some of the questions that I would like to explore with my readers in this fun personal project. But of course, along the way, we can simply enjoy Chinese fashion, like any other fashion, for the visual feast that it is!
